Community Engagements and Volunteering

BintiBomba Initiative

Founder and Chairperson

I spearheaded the creation of a platform dedicated to empowering female high school graduates in Kibera through computer programming education. Leading fundraising efforts and applying for grants, I ensured the sustainability and growth of our impactful programs. One notable initiative was the organization of a Women in STEM conference held in Kibera high schools, providing invaluable exposure and opportunities for girls in the community to explore and engage with STEM fields. Through my leadership and dedication to fostering inclusivity and empowerment, BintiBomba continues to make meaningful strides in bridging the gender gap in technology and promoting educational equity in underserved communities.

Financial Literacy Project

Organiser

With the support of Ashesi University, I conducted a financial literacy workshop in Kibera for 130 incredible women. In a community where women predominantly serve as breadwinners, this initiative marked a substantial stepping stone towards economic empowerment. I partnered with financial advisors from Equity Bank Limited and  ICEA LION Group.

Umoja Youth Group

Volunteer

During the Covid-19 era, I actively contributed to the Umoja Youth Group's efforts in supporting the community amidst the pandemic. Engaging in food distribution initiatives aimed at assisting the less fortunate, I played a crucial role in ensuring essential supplies reached those in need during challenging times. Additionally, I took on the responsibility of educating community members on the importance of using masks and adhering to Covid-19 guidelines, advocating for public health awareness and safety measures to mitigate the spread of the virus. Through my involvement with the Umoja Youth Group, I demonstrated a commitment to serving and uplifting the community during times of crisis.

We plan to support farmers by extending produce shelf life, stabilizing incomes, and minimizing food waste. By integrating renewable energy and sustainable cooling technology, KilimoChills directly advances SDGs 2 (Zero Hunger), 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and 13 (Climate Action), while fostering climate resilience and green innovation in local agricultural value chains.
